Our parents teach us to speak the truth throughout life. When we were kids, we often heard how terrible it was not tell the truth. If we misbehaved, didn’t do something we were supposed to do, or broke something, the punishment was harsher if it was discovered that we had lied about it. But the thing is... to instill this virtue of truth in our mind, our parents tend to lie us... they make all fake theories that we will always face a bad omen, nothing will work for us, we will meet a bad end.... blah blah blah... if we lie!!!
But we all know that we can't always speak the truth. Let’s start with something simple like a day when we may be feeling down. Then, when we are asked, “how are you doing today?” we say, “Oh good! I’m fine!” Or take the every-day's best example: A student reaches late for the lecture. When he/she is asked for the reason for being late, hardly 0.1% will speak the truth. So what? It's absolutely OK to speak such small lies. Coz they make more good than harm! In short, we make conscious decisions to not tell the truth every single day, probably several times per day. And, to make us feel better about them, some1 invented a category for them called White Lies. Oh, and by the way, "White lies come with an instant pardon that absolves us of the sin and neutralizes any bad karma", says our very own Bhagwad Gita.
Someone once said that “Truth is about how we feel and what is real to us. Truth is not about being right; it’s about expressing what we think and feel in an authentic, vulnerable and transparent way.” I think that last statement shares an important clue to speaking, hearing and seeing truth.
On the other hand, bigger truths carry some serious weight and the consequences of not telling them can be severe. A very good example is when you are getting into a relationship.... ahan... by the word relationship, don't think only the gf/bf relation.... here, i mean every good relation existing under the mighty hand of a GOD. Let it be any relation, you should be true to it and stick to the laws of truth. One more quote from Bhagwad Gita for all the readers: “The supreme truth exists both internally and externally, in the moving and non-moving. He is beyond the power of material senses to see or know. Although, far, far away, he is also near to all.”
